Spring 2024 After School Enrichment Program Information

Class Title: Chess (Grades K-3)

  • Open to Grades K-3
  • Mondays 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Dates: 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13 (6 weeks)
  • Cost $225 per student for 6 weeks

Description: Learn chess with Magnus Academy, the five time world champion’s academy! We’ve taught 100,000 children to play, including state & national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.

Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments outside of club time, which may have an additional fee. All chess supplies are provided. We welcome all grades and skill levels!

Free Online Extras

  • ChessKid Gold membership (normally $69/year)
  • Wednesday evening practice tournament
  • Bonus event with a BIG guest once per season - last year's guests were Magnus (the world champion) and Judit Polgar (the best female chess player of all time)!

Description: Spark creative art experiences with time-honored stories. Exciting myths, legends and tales from around the world inspire artwork to narrate stories in new ways. Folded paper puppets, painted story scrolls and sculpted creatures retell our heritage. Open ears, creativity, and good stories are all we need to get started!

Class Title: Funky Forces

Description: Through the course of Funky Forces and more, children will play engineer, chemist-and stunt pilot! Children will investigate physics fundamentals and bring their scientific minds to basic magic tricks. Your Mad Scientists will be shocked by what they learn about electricity, blown away by their experiments with air pressure, and mystified by the wonders of chemistry!

Description:  We’ve assembled some of our favorite recipes to create the ultimate All-American Diner Challenge!  Each week students will learn how to make the daily special—with a twist! They will be challenged to use a “secret ingredient” to keep the menu fresh and not let any food go to waste. Our Tiny Chefs will also be challenged to use their imaginations and new-found culinary knowledge to plan their own restaurants. If your Tiny Chef loves Top Chef and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, this is the class for them!

  • Cost $245 per student for 6 weeks

Description: Blast off with a program designed and created specifically by NASA engineers! Set your future space explorers on a trajectory from our Earth's atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system! This hands-on program will bring children closer to the stars, planets, comets, and more. Learn about living in space, getting away from gravity, looking for space phenomena, and participate in a rocket launch!

Class Title: My First Lemonade Stand

  • Open to Grades K - 2
  • Thursdays 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Dates: 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9 (6 weeks)
  • Cost $245 per student for 6 weeks

Description: Learn how to make sweet and tangy lemonade – and make money by selling it! Experiment with recipes, design flyers, learn how to count money, make change and tally your profits. Then, in a showcase finale event, launch your lemonade stand and sell, sell, sell, and raise funds for a charity students select!

Class Title: Middle School (MS) Rock Band

  • Open to Grades 6-8
  • Thursdays, 4:00 pm- 5:00 p.m.
  • Dates: 2/8, 2/15, 3/7, 3/14, 4/11, 4/18, 4/19, 5/2, 5/3, 5/9, 5/16 (11 sessions)
    Note: No class 3/21 MS Discovery Days; 3/28 spring break; and 4/4 Ms. Miller out of town.
  • Cost: $482 for 11 weeks

Description: Middle School Rock Band students who are continuing from the winter session should sign up here to continue through the spring. This session will culminate with a performance on May 21, 2024. Students are responsible for bringing their instrument/voice, cables, drumsticks, accessories, and something to take notes with (notebook, staff paper, and pencil or laptop) to each rehearsal. Amplifiers, drumset, mics, and keyboards are provided.

If you are interested in joining the Middle School Rock Band for the first time this spring, please contact Ms. Justine Miller or Ms. Lerna May-Frandsen before registering. They can provide more information on how to audition. New students will be eligible to join starting on 3/14 for a prorated amount.
